Very often Indian parents believe that we are diverging away from our traditions. The true fact is that we are actually not completely forgetting the traditions. We bring in a little innovations to make it modern to suit our generation ! Party? Wedding receptions? Once the major shopping is all over, we look out for matching fashion accessories. Gold is no more a craze. College goers loves wearing these contemporary jewels. The one in trend now is the danglers, which come out in different shapes, made out of different metals, some stone studded and others are coated. The difference from the steads is that these ear rings will hang loosely and usually so as to be able to swing freely. In ancient days, they were used to a different kinda ear ring !

When I was 8, I was urged to our village kadayam situated near thirunelvelli. I found women were wearing a particular type of earring, they called it PAMPBADAM, one of the most interesting and conspicuous traditional Indian earring types is the snake earring. It was a sign of identity, of membership in the defined social group into which she was born. Wearing the specific earrings of her community, she continues the tradition of her ancestors. Thandatti is an ear ornament worn by ladies along with PAMBADAM, mudichchu, mElidu, this is made of thin gold plates filled with wax. Rich old ladies wear five types of ornaments resembling a fruit bunch. Traditional earrings in the villages are manifestations of symbolism, religious meaning and social significance. I came to know that, they use a special type of stem called ‘thattai’ and insert it inside the ear hole to make it bigger. Months later, it is removed, and they hang this pambadam.
Pambadam, Gimikki, and other golden earrings are out dated. And these danglers give a new definition to looks and the whole persona gets transformed. However, it has its other side also; recent studies reveals that, wearing heavy metal ear rings are not advisable, as it would cause early deafness. I wouldn’t certainly say no to danglers, wear danglers matching your outfit but let it be ocassional !

Dance is an art form that generally refers to movemnt of the body, usually rhythmic and to music used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting. Bharata Natyam, which originates from the state of Tamil Nadu in South India, is one of the most popular dance styles in India. A popular interpretation of the name of the style is: BHAva (expression) +RAga (musical mode) +TAla (rhythm) NATYAM (dance) = BHARATA NATYAM

Lord shiva himself is well known for his love for Dance. Dancing Natraj, a depiction of the Dancing Shiva, is a well-renowned piece of art. Lord Shiva is the Indian deity for dance and is described as Lord Nataraja. (Nata-dance and raja-the king). The figure of Nataraja presenting the visual concept of Lord Shiva’s dance represents the faith that human life emanates from and consists of the five prime elements like fire, water, space, wind and earth. Nataraja holds Agni (fire) in his left hand, Ganga (water) in his tresses, Moon (akash) on his head, Damaru (wind) instrument in his right hand and his right foot resting on the Earth.

The Sangeet Naatak Academi currently confers classical status on eight Indian dance forms:
Bharatanatyam - Tamil Classical Dance
Odissi - Orrisa Classical dance
Kuchipudi - Telugu Classical dance
Manipuri - Manipur Classical Dance
Mohiniaattam - Kerala Classical Dance
Sattriya - Asamese Classical Dance
Kathakali - Malayalam Classical Dance
Kathak - North Indian Classical Dance

Having lived in a place like THANJORE (which promotes the art of dance - bharathanatyam) for 10 years, I have acquired a great passion for classical dance. I just admire the way the dancers convey the feelings to the audience with out speaking, and only through the bodily movements, mudhras (hand gestures), and abinayam (expressions). I was totally carried away by the performance given by Actress cum dancer Padmini in the tamil movie Thillana Mohanambal. One will fall in love for this art on seeing her performing those navarasam (Sringara-Love, Hasya-Comedy, Karuna-Pity, Raudra-Furious, Veeryam-Heroic, Bhayanakam-Fearful, Bhibatsam-Disgust, Adbhutham -Wonder, Shantam-Peace) all at once in just 9 seconds.

I am not only elated but also proud to see many foreigners showing keen interest in promoting the art abroad. Long live this divinely art. It will continue to flourish as long as young aspirants come forward learn this sacred art !

One of my favorite movies in Hindi is TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. It is a must watch movie. Every soul who had watched this movie would definitely agree with me. Not many of us know what Dyslexia is. The movie did give us some information about it, yet many might not have got the full impact because it is just a 3 hour movie. I totally appreciate the ace actor cum director Aamir Khan for his wonderful portrayal of this disability, which is quite prevalent among children, yet many unaware of it. I Hope this post will clear some of your doubts.

DYSLEXIA is a type of LEARNING DISABILITY in which a child has difficulty learning to read and understand written language. Even kids with average or above-average intelligence, plenty of motivation, and ample opportunities to read can have dyslexia. Because kids with dyslexia have trouble making the basic connection between letters and their sounds, they often also have difficulty with spelling, writing, and speaking.

With the proper instruction and assistance, a child with dyslexia can learn to read, thrive in school, and succeed in the workforce. But it’s important for the child to be diagnosed as early as possible and to promptly get any needed support and assistance. A common assumption about dyslexia is that letters or words appear reversed; i.e., “was” appears like “saw.” This type of problem can be a part of dyslexia, but reversals are very common among all children up until first grade, not just kids with dyslexia.

You will be amazed, if I disclose the names of famous dyslexics to you. Did you ever know that Albert Einstein only began to talk at the age of three, and had trouble with language throughout elementary school? Other famous dyslexics are ‘heart-throb Tom Cruise’, Walt Disney, Leonardo Da Vinci. Hey the list doesn’t end there. It’s quite long!! Do spread this message to others to bring awareness. Let’s help those dyslexics.

Dear Dudette ,

Always wanted to look as pretty as a Barbie doll??

Are you obessed about looking good? I know that it is probably weird to take makeup tips from someone whom you have never seen before. So Am not here to give you tips which will give you that ‘extra’ glow. If you are searching for tips, sorry you are on the wrong page! Am not here to provide you tips on makeup rather this is about how you can feel beautiful without makeup. Yes, you read that right - ‘without makeup’.

Or do you think ONLY makeup can make you look different and beautiful? Go get a new hair-do. It does improve your look. Probably that’s an understatement. It does a lot to your looks. Get a proper hair cut that will suit your face and you will get a new ‘YOU’. Oh don’t waste your money on L’oreal and Revlon products. Always remember,

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical” .

“Yesterday I dared to struggle. Today I dare to win.” - Bernadette Devlin.

Life is a game with a glorious prize if we can only play it right. There is always and certainly being a battle to be fought valiantly before the coveted victory is won. Great achievements often require long, tortuous and bitter experiences, including perhaps some sacrifices. So never give up. It is wiser and better always to help than ever despair.

Even the last minute preparation for the semester exam could be a great success if an individual completely dedicates that few hours on his studies with a determined mind. Students should also develop an optimistic approach to things. Success for sure, is not a matter of luck or genius. Success depends on adequate preparation and indomitable as well as lasting determination.

How many of us fully utilize 24 hours of our study holidays? Truly speaking none can, and none will :D But then a systematic approach can certainly help us to score more. Success is not about how much of time you put in (Hey, dont get me wrong and waste your time :p ), rather it springs from imaginative, dedicated and determined effort !

Hey all,

Freeze your thoughts before you proceed futher. This is my first post, ofcourse a memorable one. Yup its about my blog title “FROZEN MEDULLA” and the reason behind me, choosing it. Here I go.

Does the word “MEDULLA” ring a bell? Sure it does for every science student. The medulla oblongata is the lower portion of the brainstem. It deals with autonomic functions, such as breathing and blood pressure. You might wonder I am going to relate brain with my blog. The brain - main organ which co-ordinates between recieved impulses and our responces. It does co-ordinate our past experiences (memories) and present actions. The bio-electronic process behind this is just amazing. It makes us more powerful than super computers. Hope you would have got a clear picture or atleast a vague one. LOL ;). A million ideas would have aroused on your mind by now. This is just an attempt made to freeze a few of those million ideas as and when you scan through everyline of my post.

Unique way of visualizing things is my innate nature and that would be evident from my upcoming articles. Stay addicted, hope my cool articles freeze your ideas all through !

Soft toys, furry dolls, Teddy bears, Barbie dolls are my all time favorite dolls. Of all teddies excite me a lot. Not always they could clearly express their feelings, probably that makes me to go behind it.
Wherever I go, the first thing that diverts my attention is the teddy bear, which is love the most! I am the eldest daughter to my parents. Everybody including my uncle gifts soft toys only to my younger sisters. Just because I am 3 years elder to them, I would only recieve gifts like story books, pens and all stationaries. I neither owned a teddy for myself in my childhood, nor did I felt like getting one outta my pocket money in my teens.

The one in the pic is my favourite teddy gifted by my friend when i was 22. It might be too late for me to play with it, still I am glad I have one ! It is very very special to me :) because that is my first teddy in my life and its my own! :)

ART EVERYWHERE !

I could vaguely recollect the day I started to sketch a picture. Slowly but steadily I realized that I was gifted with the art of painting. I also noticed that the work finished by me were always been appreciated by others. They will always end up saying the work was really artistic, be it a simple presentation or a class assignment!

I practiced drawing in my summer holidays. I just love to meddle up my art with the vibrant colors. I have a good collection of my paintings too.

I started scribbling all over my hands using ball pens just for fun during break time in my college days. Later I decided to draw designs; I then started to use black marker pens and glitters to add colors. I still remember, the motivation behind this was the cine actress Simran who would have done a body art in the FANTA advertisement.

Later, I started painting my nails. People call this ‘NAIL ART’. I had tried all modern designs in dark shades. It’s still green in my memories, my first attempt! I painted dark red as the base and did some black inverted V shaped lines at both the edges of my nails. Finally I coated with a nail gloss. This design stayed for nearly a month. Isn’t this awesome! It looked totally hot. My next move was to adorn it. I felt I had to advance this. How about stones? LOL! Believe it or not, I did this. I applied nail polish say some 3 coats and then I glued a tiny little white stone just above 3 coats of nail polish using Fevi quick :D

Mom always keeps that traditional way of mehendi, those 7 dots, and fore fingers with caps. During diwali time everyone in home are excited keeping mehendi. But I got bored of the same old design; I decided to do something different, I bought that ready made mehendi cone and drew my own design.

Later I tried this art in my sister’s, neighbour’s, my kith and kin’s palms. It was worth a trial! I learnt to apply mehendi the way my friends wished! I made them all happy with my art! I learnt that “ The best way to cheer up myself is to try to cheer up somebody else” :)

Music makes everyone happy. Is there anyone on earth who doesn’t like music? The answer would be a definite no. Not everyone listens to the same kind of music. Some likes melody while others go for peppy numbers. And I love any type of music. Melody,Rock,Pop absolutely anything. Even if I don’t know the language I listen because I feel language is no bar for music. It’s just the beats that matter to me. Of course lyrics add beauty to the song but it’s not the only thing that adds beauty. There is so much more to a song than the mere lyrics.

I have got addicted to Hindi film songs of late. And every time I keep a Hindi channel to listen, my mum would shout for I don’t know the language. But as I said language is no bar to music. One more thing she complaints to me is that I always keep the volume high. Yes, I love listening to jarring music . My neighbour would say more ;). Hey that’s how you can feel the beats! Or that’s how I feel the beats ;)

Sony Ericsson, which had been in the cellular phone market for decades. The Sony Ericsson W-series music phones are notable for being the first music-centric series mobile phones, prompting a whole new market for portable music that was developing at the time. And am proud to say I own one walkman phone which gives me company all through the day. I start listening to music early morning at 6:30 in my college bus till I hit the bed late night at 11. Yeah as this post title goes,” Music Makes Me Happy!”

As I mentioned earlier, I read a lot of books. Books are man’s best friend. There’s no doubt about it. A novel comes in handy , when you travel or during the most boring lecture or when you fight with your siblings. You can always keep yourself occupied. One of my favorite books is ‘Marley And Me’ written by John Grogan.

I just love pets, especially dogs. Am crazy for all furry creatures from polar bear to a squirrel. Back to my topic, I should thank my friend Dipika for, she gave me this book to read. She knows am mad about dogs. As I read that book, I could relate it to my life. I have a cute dog Scooby J He is a black pom and my sweet little pet. If I start writing about him, there would be no end to it. I will post a separate article about him.

As you would have guessed from the title of this book, Marley, the hero of this book is a notorious dog. Nevertheless he is an adorable pet and his master’s loves him like any other master would. This book revolves fully around this dog and it is a real life story. The book portrays Grogan and his family’s life during the thirteen years that they lived with their Labrador retriever, Marley. I quite didn’t like the climax because this cute dog dies in the end. I know death is something inevitable but the pain you feel when your dog leaves this world is inexplicable. And Grogan had potrayed that feeling well. What’s more? You just have to read and feel it.
